🗣️ What the Shrimpers Are Saying
“This fountain represents the honest welcome we owe visitors… and that includes serving real, wild-caught South Carolina shrimp.”
— Bryan Jones, VP, SC Shrimpers Association
“We’re not trying to ‘get’ restaurants. We want accountability, transparency, and fairness.”
— Attorney Gedney Howe IV
🗨️ Responses from Accused Businesses
Page’s Okra Grill
“We do not falsely advertise our shrimp as all local. We use both East Coast wild-caught and responsibly farmed imported shrimp to meet our 3,000 lb/week demand.”
Mount Pleasant Seafood
“We know our shrimp is from SC. We have receipts from trusted vendors. We clearly label when we use frozen local shrimp.”
Tavern & Table
“We were unaware of being named. We do not knowingly misrepresent our shrimp.”
Poseidon’s Playground
“We’re a food truck. We don’t advertise local shrimp.”
Mill Street Tavern (Crave Hospitality Group)
“Transparency matters to us. We are actively reviewing the suit with legal counsel.”
🧭 What Comes Next?
Lawsuit has been filed — not all restaurants have received official notice yet.
The Shrimpers Association is open to cooperation with restaurants that want to correct course.
Long-term goals include:
Restoring consumer trust
Protecting local food economies
Encouraging honest sourcing industry-wide
Hyman’s Seafood Reaches Resolution
In a statement released by Gedney Howe, the restaurant has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and pledged its support in the fight to save the shrimping industry.
“When Hyman’s learned that, on more than one occasion, their social media posts implied that they were serving local shrimp, they, as we had hoped, chose the path of integrity and contacted The Law Office of Gedney Howe. Our discussions were prompt, honest, and solution-oriented. The mistakes made were not malicious and resulted from an oversight by an outside social media team. Hymans has implemented measures to ensure that this will not happen in the future.”

As if I weren’t busy enough…I’m on TikTok now
Earlier in the Historic Home section, you may have noticed something new: a full walkthrough of the historic home on TikTok. This is something that has been on the back burner for way too long, and it is officially launched. I’ve always loved touring and showing my clients the historic homes in Charleston, so I’ve decided to start documenting them. Raw, one-take, video walkthroughs of these amazing homes, while not just talking about the present state of the property, but also their rich history. So if you’re into that sort of thing, please give me a follow.
