New Hollings Cancer Hospital at MUSC

Why a New Cancer Hospital?

  • To rival the nation's best cancer centers.

  • Aims to ensure South Carolinians don't need to leave the state for advanced care.

  • Essential for advancing cancer care, research, and prevention in SC.

Key Goals and Impact

  • Crucial for the Hollings Cancer Center to achieve NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center designation.

  • This is the highest level of excellence in cancer research.

  • Will allow Hollings to increase the "depth and breadth" of its cancer research.

Services and Features

  • Will offer one-stop integrated inpatient and outpatient services.

  • Includes expanded clinics and an outpatient surgery center.

  • Features dedicated services like cancer imaging (CT, MRI, PET), pathology, lab, chemo, radiation therapy, and Phase 1 clinical trials.

Location, Location, Location

  • To be built in Charleston on the footprint of the current Rutledge Tower annex, energy plant, and parking area.

  • The location borders Ashley Avenue and Sabin Street, extending to Rutledge Avenue.

  • This site is better as it's closer to MUSC's main hospital for patients needing critical care.

Timeline and Funding

  • Planning and development began immediately.

  • The medical office building at 334 Calhoun St. is expected to open by 2028.

  • The new cancer hospital is expected to be completed in five years (2030).

  • The state has allocated a total of $15 million to support the project.

Tucked away on a quiet street in one of James Island's most beloved pockets, this classic brick ranch offers the perfect blend of timeless character and modern updates - just 10 minutes to downtown Charleston, 10 minutes to Folly Beach, and 7 minutes to James Island County Park. Set on a ½-acre lot with three bedrooms plus a potential mother-in-law suite, guest space, or fourth bedroom, the property feels like a private Lowcountry retreat with four grand oaks, magnolias, camellias, azaleas, jasmine, gardenias, and more. Around the corner from a second park with tidal creek views and bordered by an un-developable lot next door, it's peaceful, private, and almost too good to be true. Tech Week and The Charleston Tech Industry

Earlier, I mentioned Charleston Tech Week; what I didn’t mention is that I will be in attendance for their influencer lounge to assist attendees with their social media presence. So I wanted to take a moment and break down the tech industry’s impact on Charleston.

The Charleston area is home to over 1600 tech companies that make up 12.1% of the regional economy, with projections suggesting 35,000 new tech jobs by 2028, with an average annual salary of $123k.  The tech industry has grown 9000% in the region in the past 20 years and is projected to be the fastest-growing sector over the next 5 years.

This is a massive impact that will continue to grow. I have always been a fan of new tech and continue to use tech innovations in my daily life and work, so I’m extremely excited to be a part of Tech Week this year! Check out the DIG South Tech Summit schedule HERE.
