Airport Expansion Breaks Ground!
📍 What’s Happening?
Charleston International Airport (CHS) officially broke ground on the West Gates Expansion on July 14.
The $105 million project is one of the airport’s most significant investments in years.
🏗️ Project Highlights
Adds 40,000+ sq. ft. of passenger space.
Includes 4 new gates with large hold room areas.
Builds nearly 4,000 sq. ft. of new food, beverage, and retail space.
Adds 23,000 sq. ft. of operational space for airport functions.
Integrates international arrival capabilities connected directly to the federal inspection station.
🌍 Why It Matters
Gate capacity will increase by 15% once the project is complete.
Enables international flights to be processed more efficiently.
Supports the region’s growing travel demand—both domestic and international.
🗓️ Timeline
Construction is underway now.
Substantial completion expected by the end of 2026.
Minimal disruption to current airport operations during construction.
